There's also an application/package called disk-manager for editing the fstab.

I found that app and experimented with it. Works as advertized. GUI for the fstab file. I think one needs to be careful however and choose which method you will use consistently. I don't think changing method between the two from time to time is a good idea

You have less control, but it is easier to use and requires less knowledge. It probably makes the right decision for you most of the time.

That's generally the tradeoff when using a GUI as a frontend for a task that could be done on the command line.
