[SOLVED]Wifi and NIC not working

Post by antmon »

Hello! I bought an i5 laptop and yesterday tried to install Salix Xfce x86_64 from the live cd and it failed in the two attempts. So I downloaded the install version and all went well. Almost. I checked the /var/log/messages and dmesg when I was running the live cd and didn't find anything wrong. Now that I have it installed I don't have wifi or cable connection to the network. Lspci tells me that I have a centrino wireless card and an atheros nic. A little help is appreciated. Thanks.

I assume that wifi was working when running the Live cd. If not, then a possible solution could be to install Shador's new kernel http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3562 from a portable memory disk.

If there's an error in the installer it helps to tell where that happened and what configuration is the cause. For the installer running it from CLI and posting the outpu is also of great help.

You where right Shador! I hadn't much time to try this but in the live cd I have wireless. Although the nic still doesn't work.
Thanks.

Please post the output of lspci -vnn and of iwconfig. Also verify the interfaces selected in wicd's preferences or just post their values too.

Apparently your Wlan is working? And apparrently as well you didn't try the newer kernel?

That kernel supports your LAN network device (PCI-ID 1969:1083):
# modinfo atl1c
filename: /lib/modules/3.3.6/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/atl1c/atl1c.ko

Well all went very nicely. I installed

Code: Select all

installpkg kernel-huge-recent-3.3.6-x86_64-1ab.txz
installpkg kernel-modules-recent-3.3.6-x86_64-1ab.txz
installpkg kernel-firmware-20120520git-noarch-1ab.txz
followed with

Code: Select all

lilo -c -v

and finally

Code: Select all

rm rc.modules && ln -s rc.modules-3.3.6-recent rc.modules

Rebooted and is working. Guys like you and the rest of the developers are an inspiration and that's why Salix is SO GREAT! Thanks alot!
