Actually I'm not talking only about cold start times. :) KDE takes 20+ seconds to start when cached. For the most part though you're probably right.

It's probably not anymore (completely) cached then due to lack of space. ;)

What about just adding some more RAM to the machine? It's relatively cheap and has quite an impact on caching and speed in general.
