mcabber broken?

Post by mimosa »

New to jabber, I discovered mcabber, a console jabber client somewhat reminiscent of rtorrent. This is a Slackware package.

I came across what looks like this error:

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25857

though the Salix gnutls is not nearly that bleeding-edge. In any case, I tried recompiling with --with-ssl="openssl", and could only get that to work by downgrading to 0.9.10.

I'm new to this app, so I may well have missed something somewhere- perhaps in the configuration.

It's no longer a problem for me in the sense that I got it working as described, albeit without getting to the bottom of the trouble. But is anybody else using mcabber? Does it work?

Incidentally, searching the forum, I saw mention of the idea of putting mcabber in the Ratpoison edition. Assuming it works, that doesn't seem like a bad idea. I spent some time with Pidgin first, and the contrast between the two apps is a very good advertisement, in my view, for the use of console apps for tasks to which they are suited; despite the lack of some features in mcabber.
