Post by zazlox »

hello everybody

i followed the method shown on the salix wiki to upgrade from 13.10 to 13.37 .

first off i'm using a broadband 3G but with a 3G router . network is really slow , it took me nearly 2 days to finish about 600 mb cuz i installed some programm and other stuff . anyway , the download + install was correctly done , but there is something on the ouput of :

Code: Select all

Since you added that slacky.eu repository yourself, take a look here: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/C ... itories%3F

/etc/slackware-version will not change. It only shows the version of slackware that you originally installed. Well, actually it can change if you really want it to...

Code: Select all

# echo "Slackware 13.37" > /etc/slackware-version

thanks gapan for your nice comment.

i agree with you about slacky repository , and i already knew about that . it's good to keep things clean and correct if we can say so .

about the ouput i posted i fix it by installing glibc-solibs package . and i do an upgrade after that to install some other packages .

but there is still some packages are excluded from upgrade

Code: Select all

root[zazlox]# slapt-get --upgrade
Reading Package Lists...Done
The following packages have been EXCLUDED:
  aaa_base kernel-firmware kernel-headers kernel-huge-smp kernel-modules-smp
  kernel-source zzz-settings zzz-settings-fluxbox
0 upgraded, 0 reinstalled, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove, 8 not upgraded.

Done
anyway they system and salix working good , it's not really something important , i better only wait for official update and upgrade .

thanks again for your support .

If you want to upgrade the kernel packages, you should upgrade the kernel packages...

Code: Select all

slapt-get -i kernel-firmware kernel-headers kernel-huge-smp kernel-modules-smp kernel-source

Those warnings are not important. Did you run lilo and did you reboot your system? A kernel upgrade requires a reboot. It seems you didn't follow the wiki guide for your upgrade, it details everything you have to do.

i did follow the wiki about the upgrade method till this section "Paquets obsolètes " , i didn't do what's after that . in the french wiki there isn't anything about rebooting the system after the packages upgrade .

anyway after reading your last post i did reboot my system but salix won't boot

Code: Select all

Loading Salix ..........
it stops like that

waiting for ten minutes but nothing change .

sorry i didn't run lilo , that was a big mistake .

i use a live cd . and this lilosetup.conf

Code: Select all

# If later on you want to use this configuration file directly
# with lilo in a command line, use the following syntax:
# "lilo -v -C /etc/lilosetup/conf" instead of the traditional
# "lilo -v" command. You must of course issue that command from
# the operating system holding /etc/lilosetup.conf & ensure that
# all partitions referenced in it are mounted on the appropriate
# mountpoints.
#
# Windows bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/sda1
label = Windows
# Windows bootable partition config ends
#
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz-huge-smp-2.6.33.4-smp
root = /dev/disk/by-uuid/197afae0-45b5-4189-8ccd-f0d9e7a698f9
label = Salix
read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends
i checked log files but there is nothing about kernel or boot as a warning or error
