Hardware RAID controllers

Post by thenktor »

Hi,

is anybody using hardware RAID controllers in Salix/Slackware and can report some experience? So far I've found this site: http://hwraid.le-vert.net/wiki with some useful information. It seems the kernel has drivers for 3ware, Adaptec and LSI controllers.

Or would you rather recommend to use Linux software RAID? What about the root partition then?

Thanks

EDIT:
Kernel support for 3ware (bought by LSI in 2009)
Linux kernels 2.6.33 and newer include native support for the 3ware 7000/8000/9500S/9550SX(U)/9590SE/9650SE/9690SA/9750 series controllers.

Kernel support for LSI:
Linux kernels 2.4.3 and newer, and all 2.6 kernels:
MegaRAID SAS 8204 / 8208
MegaRAID SAS 84016E
MegaRAID SAS 8704 / 8708 / 8888
MegaRAID SAS 9240
MegaRAID SAS 9260 / 9261
MegaRAID SAS 9280

Kernel support for Adaptec:
For Adaptec I did not find a kernel support list, yet.
EDIT2: The list of supported Adaptec RAID controllers can be found in the kernel source dir in Documentation/scsi/aacraid.txt
