Re: Desktop & windows effects on Mate
I don't know...what are the difference? What would you advise me?
Re: Desktop & windows effects on Mate
If you want 3D effects with various of effects to choose from then use Compiz. If you want something more simple with semi-transparent menus/windows with shadows and with fade in/out effects than try cairo-compmgr or Xcompmgr.
Re: Desktop & windows effects on Mate
Oh ok! I saw cairo-compmgr and compiz fusion on youtube...How do I install theese? Thanks
Re: Desktop & windows effects on Mate
To install cairo-compmgr you need to use Sourcery or this command
To install Compiz you need to follow these instructions by lmello.
Code: Select all
# slapt-src -i cairo-compmgr
Re: Desktop & windows effects on Mate
Ok! I have installed! but, after Alt+F2 an I write: compiz cpp --replace, the terminal write: "compiz (core) - Fatal: Couldn't open display"

- compizconfig-python (from sourcery slackbuild manager)
- ccsm (from sourcery slackbuild manager)
- compiz-plugins-main (from sourcery slackbuild manager)
2) on the shell of desktop I write: ccsm
3) I have enabled "Window Decoration", "Resize Window" and "Move Window" and close ccsm
4) then, I used Alt+F2 for enter on the shell and I have write: compiz cpp --replace (both as a user and as superuser), but the reply was: "compiz (core) - Fatal: Couldn't open display"

@Salix Staff
Why are not the SLKBUILDs of lmello published at the Salix packages list?
@danelius
I do not use desktop effects so I can not help you any further.
Please contact lmello and ask him to join to the conversation.
A guess of mine is to install the packages compiz-bcop, libcompizconfig, compizconfig-python, ccsm, compiz-plugins-main, from http://people.salixos.org/lmello/pkg/c/
Use the .txz archives if you are using a 64-bit system.
If not, then use the SLKBUILD scripts. Put each SLKBUILD in a separate folder and build them with this command
