14RC1 - X starts randomly

I`m trying to use 14RC1 on regular basis on 3 laptops and I found that one of my systems has random problems with starting X: one time it boots into graphic mode and another it fails completely and I cannot even use ttys. This is probably due to my card radeon HD 6310M. This is strange as it happens randomly on booting. I would rather expect it to work or not work all the time the same way. I have not tried to install proprietary Ati drivers yet (I thought I could do without it) but it looks I`ll have to try.

I have almost the exactly same problem . I run salix xfce 14rc1, AMD Radeon HD 6480G.

I`ve installed proprietary Ati driver according to Salix wiki but it won`t help as X won`t start at all. In order to make X run I need to append "nomodeset" to lilo.

X still failed to start randomly, odds is about 1 out of 10-15 times . this really realy bugs me!
