Caps Lock key as Ctrl key? [Solved]

Post by f.bluedevil »

I would like to change my key bindings so my Caps Lock key will function as my Cntrl key and my Cntrl key will function as my Caps Lock key. I have not had any success reading the XFCE documentation, it mentions an xfce4-xkb-plugin and I see it is installed but I have no idea how to access it, (tried the terminal and the keyboard management options in Settings Manager) nor do I know for sure if it's the right tool for the job, although it looks promising.

I am a avid emacs user and my pinky finger would be eternally grateful if I could get the keys switched ;)

Re: Caps Lock key as Ctrl key?

I found a thread in the Xfce forum that contained a workable solution:

1) From the settings menu select 'Session and Startup'
2) Select the 'Application Autostart' tab
3) Click the 'Add' button
4) Use whatever Name and Description you see fit
5) Enter /usr/bin/setxkbmap -option "ctrl:nocaps" in the Command box
6) Reboot your system and now your Caps Lock key will function as a Ctrl key

Note: Your Ctrl will still function as before. It will not function as a Caps Lock key. In my case I never use the Caps Lock key, so I an not going to research it any further.
