wireless internet access with Salix 13.37

Post by textillis »

Hi folks,
I've just installed Salix but it won't recognize my wireless device.
( 001 Device 005: ID 12d1:1506 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E398 LTE/UMTS/GSM Modem/Networkcard)

I knew it wasn't going to be a Mint experience, or an Ubuntu slide, but I was rather hoping to get online at least.

However, I have another two linux OSs working with a connection so I'm not entirely at sea.

Question: what must I do to get the appropriate driver into my Salix install?

Thanks for any help,
Tex

Is there any reason for installing 13.37 instead of 14.0? I can't guarantee it, but the latest version is more likely to recognise your wireless card.

Thanks Knome.
I got me an install of 14 and plugged straight into the data line with sarki (a thing of simple beauty).
I wandering around like a kid in a fun park, eyes agog, and wanting "a go" on everything!

Cheers.

I do. And it was thanks to you the other night and the help you rendered that I am now using Salix: thank you again.

My only doubt remains: if sakis3g is forcing my dongle to select 3g mode exclusively (when my dongle is able to go between 2g and 3g depending on a number of variables at play at any given moment) then it might be the cause of my system seeming to run A LOT slower under Salix: the browser is moving like a tractor through mud!

Is this a possibility?

Otherwise, I loved the way Sakis set up and installed my interface; like I said: "thing of beauty".

cheers.
