I am new to Salix, and am slowly learning about the command line etc. I have tried a lot of distros (really - a lot!) and I have found Salix to be the best. I really like the way Slackware distros work and I used Vector for a while. Anyway, I am glad to be here.
Welcome retriever!!
Slackware Distros are solid.
Personally, I like Salix the as the best of the Slackware spinoffs.
Great installer, current with Slack 14 & dedicated developers.
Enjoy!
I am in the same boat as you, tried many variants of Linux, finding Slackware to be the best of the bunch. One thing I didn't like about Slackware was the name and the logo. It doesn't really click with me. But I love Salix and the nice Bonsai tree logo
Arch is second on my list, although I can't really say it is a 'close' second. I just hate the rolling release stuff. Too frequent updates
Hello and welcome aboard retriever.
I have used Salix continuosly in the last couple of years and never thought to change to anything else (altough I still distro hop in my VM from time to time).
Welcome aboard! I hope you'll enjoy using Salix OS and participating in the forum. Since you mentioned that you're beginning to learn about the command line, you might be interested in checking out these books (if you're not already familiar with them):
