Hi,
Sorry to bug you again, I just have one small issue I need fixed if possible. I have a key on my keyboard that should hibernate the system. But when I press it nothing happens. This is not a big deal, except this computer it for my kids, and it is better if they can just press that button when they are done rather than shutting down or finding the option in the menu.
Thanks

Re: hibernate key does not work
Actually I just tested using the menu, and hibernate just turns the screen black for a second then comes right back, and suspend essentially just shuts the computer off. No keys bring it back, and pressing the power button just turns the computer on (boots back up as if it was off).

Re: hibernate key does not work
I think the problem I am seeing is caused because I did not setup a big enough swap partition. I went through the install process too fast, and only set it to 1 GB. I am going to increase it to 5 and see if that helps.
Re: hibernate key does not work
you can have a look at /var/log/pm-suspend.log to see if there are error messages there.

Re: hibernate key does not work
I couldn't re-size my partitions, so I am doing a re-install now. I am at work now, but will check it out when I get home.

Re: hibernate key does not work
I now have a 7G swap partition, have added resume=/dev/sda2 to the append in lilo.conf (then ran lilo and rebooted).
But it will not resume, it just powers off (with my other distrobutions, it would leave the power led blinking when I would suspend.
I don't know what I am looking for in the logs, but here it is.

Re: hibernate key does not work
I can't see anything going wrong there, but it's not waking up.
On my laptop the log continuesand then a section of all the hooks succeeding.
Was the other distribution on the same machine? Can you compare logs?
Sometimes there is a BIOS setting for what sleep mode to use. I can't remember which was what off the top of my head, but my desktop had a problem with one of the options.

Re: hibernate key does not work
Yes, the other distribution was on this machine, in fact I have used several on this machine that have worked (pclinuxos, ubuntu, and Manjaro). However none of them have been running xfce. Just gnome and kde. I may try salix kde and see if that works.
Unfortunately I don't have the logs anymore since I wiped the drive when I installed Salix. However I just booted into windows 7, and the suspend works fine there.

Re: hibernate key does not work
well this is interesting. I have installed pclinuxos back on (not the same version I had, but a newer 64 bit version), and when I suspend, it shuts down too... I also tried mint and it shuts down as well... so no new linux verstions work anymore. This is not just Salix...
windows 7 still works though.

Re: hibernate key does not work
It's not surprising that windows works. They get special treatment from the hardware manufacurers (something to do with money I believe).
Have you tried 'sleep' or suspend to RAM instead of suspend to disk?
Are you certain that the resume= parameter on your kernel boot points to your swap partition?
That's the only other thing I can think of.
It certainly looks like a problem with the resume side of things.
try and check that it is /dev/sda2
