Hi all,

I put the live version on a DVD and it would not even boot I think it was something about GRUB 2 why do they use that. Last time I use Slackware they didn't use it. I don't know what up. I have no problems with Slax 32 or 64 bit version. If anyone in the US that can make a USB version that would be great but the 64bit version. I can send a 8gb USB but I want it to be able use the whole 8gb. I really want it on a 64gb usb. I live in Marysville Ohio.

I don't know why Ubuntu can install and can work the first time. I have all these on a 10 8gb USB each 32 & 64 bit version that cover gnome, kde, xfce, lxde and mate and they work find. Plus I have Mate on a 64gb USB. All there linux can be run live or a full install you don't two files to do it.

I try to convert people to linux and tell it is free. And I have done this over about 10 years or more.

I know your program is good to but you need a better way to install it on a USB.

Thanks
Jack

Since this is free software, we would be most grateful if you would implement that and send us your changes. Thanks!

Until then, the instructions in the wiki are good enough for anyone that can read them.

Hi,

There's a thread on the forums containing instructions on how to do it for usb, but I cannot seem to post URLs yet so search for "salix os mate 13.37" in the forums:

In order to take advantage of the new isohybrid iso, you just need to run (example for the 32-bit iso):

Code: Select all

    dd if=salixlive-mate-13.37-32.iso of=/dev/sdc
For UNetBootin: Versions greater or equal to 575 correctly deal with USB installation and persistence

However, you get better results by simply unzipping the ISO into a USB, and go to boot directory and run the install-as-boot.sh command. All these can be done logging into one of the many working linux USBs you have.

Hope that helps.

Surio.

I want to install Salix on a usb-pendrive and I want to use it not just for demo or for installing Salix to hard disks but as my regular system which I can carry with me anywhere and run it on any available computer. I want to install more programs on it with gslapt or sourcery, change settings and save data files in /home/user folder and to access them at subsequent boots. Which of the following approach would work for this purpose:

1. Run Salix installer (from liveCD or from installer.iso CD) and choose usbdrive sdb1 during installation.
2. Install Salix on usb drive as mentioned on this page: http://docs.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/ ... an_USB_key

Thanks for your clarifications.

@Jack,
Any number of things can go wrong with burning DVDs, and it is difficult to do offline debug/help with it.

OTOH, if your objective is to "boot" or "install" salix, then either of my recommendations will take things forward.

At the end of the day, it is more satisfactory to move forward with "what works" and "get things done", yes? ;)

cheers,
surio.

Hi,

I have burn other live linux on DVD and they work beside Salix Mate live won't fit on a Cd.

Thank
Jack

PS This idea of Salix on USB has been drop on my part after the DVD won't even boot up. I will stay with Ubuntu Mate beside it work the first time. And it runs on my 64gb USB. I just wanted to go back to a Slackware base linux. But not now.
