Suspension/Hibernation on Vaio VPCF11C5E

Hi,
on my Sony Vaio I have installed the last SalixOS Kde 14.0.1. Thanks for your great work.
All works fine except suspension/hibernation.
During installation I have added to my lilo.conf the string "resume=/dev/sda2" where /dev/sda2 is the swap partition.

Now, when I try to suspend from kde I see that the system goes into suspension (I can see the orange led blinking) but when I try to resume it from suspension I obtain a normal reboot. What could be wrong?

Have a look at /var/log/pm-suspend.log

Are you suspending to disk? none of my machines have had a flashing light when suspended to disk. (they do that when suspended to RAM) If you're not using suspend to disk/hibernate then it's not a problem with swap.

You can also try

to see whether those methods work.

(also worth checking the obvious, that /dev/sda2 is your swap and that it's big enough and that you ran the command lilo after editing /etc/lilo.conf)

Do you see something wrong? I'm trying to suspend to ram. With pm-suspend command I see that the system goes into suspension (I can see the orange led blinking like from KDE), but when I try to resume the system from suspension I obtain always a standard boot.

/dev/sda2 is the swap partition.

Other than the absence of any messages about waking up, I see nothing wrong.

We did have a similar problem with davidwilis http://forum.salixos.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4830 but didn't really resolve that.
After rereading that thread I now recall that my desktop will suspend to disk, but not to RAM. (well more accurately it does a reboot instead of a wakeup, which sounds more like your problem.) Are there any BIOS settings you can change? It might be called something like "Sleep State"

The other suggestion by gapan was that the behaviour was related to the kernel version. You could search for information about your system and see if anyone reports similar problems. You could also try a differrent kernel version.

Yes, I obtain always a reboot instead of a wakeup...also with

. It goes into suspension but then doesn't wake up. Same thing for hibernation.
I could try a new kernel although this a little annoys me since everything works perfectly.

I got inspired to look at my desktop again. I fixed the BIOS setting by changing S1 to S3. Now it can suspend. Not that I really have a use for that feature.

Even with the hibernate the system fails to do the wakeup. I don't understand what it means " I fixed the BIOS setting by changing S1 to S3." Thanks.

It was a BIOS setting for the sleep mode.
Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acpi if you're interested in more info.

It sounds like you'll have to look at more specific information about your hardware for this problem.
You could try http://code.google.com/p/vaio-f11-linux ... tail?id=23 which recommends http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1586178 where some people are reporting success with

kernel option. in /etc/lilo.conf, we would add this to the append= line.

Unfortunately in my BIOS there are no special options to set. I tried compiling the last 3.10.12 and also adding acpi_sleep=nonvs to /etc/lilo.conf but the problem persists: it goes into suspend but it doesn't wakeup.

But now hibernation works...
