No wifi with salix but good with other distros?

Post by slkrover »

I have been a long time slackware user, used arch, edubuntu and fedora since fedora6 . I decided to try salix but there is no support for my usb wifi?. It has worked out of the box with ubuntu and slackware . I just tried 14.1 and its not even turning on/light flashing. Are you using a different kernel than everyone else? No hugesmp in 14.1?

First I'm assuming that you have installed Salix 14.0. Is this correct? If it worked out of the box with Slackware 14.1 then it should work with Salix 14.1; the kernels are the same. If you want some help you are going to have to post more information like the Make and model of the USB wifi stick, outputs of ifconfig, lsusb , lsmod, and dmesg etc.

I forgot that I start network manager in the slackware setup. I re-read the install guide and found that wicd is running but wireless needs to be started. I was reading Erics guide to enable it but lost interest. I will try again later.
