Hi all,

after yesterdays latest update (14.0, 64bit) my PC has lost the connection to the network.
I already used different cables and tried other connectors with/without switch, but it doesnot work.
Even rebooting did not help.
Other PCs and the separate WLAN-Router do work flawless.

Besides a hardware failure, which I will check this evening, I could think of a misconfiguration caused by the
latest update (which I don't remember).

Can anyone point out what might have gone worng, so which latest update possible could have affected the network configuration?

This is unlikely to be the result of an update. The best way to approach it is the normal diagnostic method - post relevant network-related output such as that of ifconfig, and more information about your hardware and how you normally connect.

It wasn't clear to me from the post whether your connection is ethernet or wireless, though since you mention a wlan router, presumably the latter.

Hi Mimosa,

no, its wired! The wlan router is plugged into the Ethernet network (all connectors are fully wired and working since years)
as the PC. The wlan router works, my PC not.

A ping to the router does not run "destination host unreachable".
It all worked flawless until yesterday evening.
I will check what you wrote and of course the hardware stuff, and will post the results.

Seems it was a hardware issue.
It was either the onboard NIC or the next switch or a combination of both.
I now have reactivated my old 3Com 905 10/100Mbits NIC and it works, after taking the switch off from electricity and back on.

[21.03.2014] It was most probably the switch or in addition, as transmission rates decreased significantly to some few kbit/s after some minutes of use. After replacing the switch with a new one, all is fine and fast.

Not sure if this is related or relevant but I'll put it out there - even though solved

I have a hardwired "main" computer running 14.1 64bit
If I just do a "restart" sometimes the network does not re-connect properly. This has been the case for 13.37 and 14.0 also.
If I do a shutdown and wait for things to calm down (10 secs or so) it reboots just fine for networking. Never bothered to find out why - could be a hardware thing.
The other thing I'll mention is that for some reason if I use static IP's with my router all is good. DHCP gets a little flaky and sometimes will not connect. I do have the DHCP address range set fairly narrow on the router.
