Skype-4.2 Blocked

Post by Atip »

Microsoft has blocked Skype-4.2 and is forcing users to skype-4.3 with which one has
to use pulseaudio. I guess that goes under user-friendlyness. May be they have built-in
more spyware.

Under pain I was eventually able to install pulseaudio, however, with the Echo123 test
I cannot hear myself speaking back. I can hear the speakers incoming instructions.

Code: Select all

$ /usr/bin/pulseaudio
E: [pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed.

$ /etc/rc.d/rc.pulseaudio status
pulseaudio is running.
There is an opening sound of Skype and a test sound.

The Sound Devices all say "PulseAudio server (local)" Nothing else possible

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

The old skype works again :D applying the second mentioned sample and removing
pulseaudio and pavucontrol. ALSA is again in charge.

I installed Slackel-Live-Fluxbox on my HD and have skype-4.2.0* running with
just a few steps.

Have both skype 4.2.0.* and skype 4.3.0.* installed
Open skype-4.3.0.*
Connect with "Sign me in when Skype starts" marked
Click Quit (don't Sign Out) to close skype.
Open skype-4.2.0 and no sign-in is needed.
Always close with Quit.

No need to fumble with pulseaudio or remove and reinstall either version of skype.
In Sound Devices there might be a need to find the correct Microphone Device.

And do not remove skype-4.3.0.* you will need it again if you sign-out accidentally
instead of Quit(ting)
