installation 14.1 XFCE

Hello !
I'm kind of a newbie ....
I installed Salix 14 without any problem. Very user friendly, very easy. I wish now to install 14.1 on another computer, from scratches (erase HD); but i have some trouble to understand the "HD partition" step. There is this black screen ... and i do not know what to do !
Can anybody help ? Thank you.
I really need a "step-by-step" explanation. This would be very basic. I want to erase the DD, start from zero.

As far as i'm aware (at least for 14.1 fluxbox installer it was like this) there comes cfdisk, whcih will allow you to partition your existing harddisk ( in my understanding you will use the entire hd for salix, correct?).

I did it like this:

I created 3 primary partitions (in my case sda1 - 3). sda1 then will have the mountpoint /, sda2 /home and sda3 will be swap. That influences how big they should/can be. If you don't have space problems i'd say with 20-30 gig for / and all the rest to /home minus as much gig as your ram is to swap (in case you only have 1 gig of ram i'd give 2 gig to the swap anyway).

For sda 1 and sda 2 i chose ext4 as filesystem (although Salix seems to prefer xfs) sine i knew it from debian. sda3 has to have swap, obviously. That's it. Then install.

Having talked (texted ? ) to him/her online, jsfarinet is not having trouble with a partition scheme, but with actually using cfdisk...i.e., how to delete existing partition and create new ones. I gave him/her a quick overview and directed him/her to the Salix Users Guide (we were hindered by my relying on memory and jsfarinet not actually being at the machine in question).

Having trouble with Mint, i decided to install Salix 14.1 on my main computer.
Actually, it is not working AT ALL ! I cannot install 14.1 ! I installed Salix 14.0 without any problem, thanks to the "AUTO INSTALL" . Then I tried to install 14.1 above 14.0.
For 14.1, the AUTO INSTALL does not appear, and i have to make the partition. I did what you told me, but it does not work. This is really not for every day user ... Why is there no more AUTO INSTALL for 14.1 ??? It takes me so much time ... And even, when it asks "Yes" or "No", then my keyboard does not work anymore !! If only there was an simple auto-install...

Here i am with 14.0 on my main PC, and 14.1 on the other one.

aaargh i am desperated.

SOrry for bothering you, but i really love Salix ! I would like to use it in 14.1 everywhere...

For 14.1, the AUTO INSTALL does not appear....

If AUTOINSTALL does not appear at all in the install menu, the only thing I can think of is that somehow the burn got corrupted, not enough to make the media not boot, but just enough so that it doesn't work properly. What I would do at this stage is to 1) re-download the iso, 2) MD5SUM to make sure the iso is good, 3) Burn the new iso to $MEDIA, 4) Try to re-install from from new $MEDIA (If it doesn't stop the install process prior to writing the new partitions and report back here).

It's been a while, but does Salix (on a USB) have the option to test the new media in the initial menu, prior to install (can't remember)? If not, it might be a nice idea to add it (if it's not that much trouble for those actually doing the work. I wouldn't want to start another Make A Live CD troubles all over again

The autoinstall option is not available in UEFI systems. So if you're not seeing it, you have one and that is really probably the source of your troubles. You can either enable "legacy" mode from the UEFI settings, so that the "normal" installation mode will be used, or again, tweak the UEFI settings to fix whatever is causing your keyboard to not function properly.

I think that this computer has a physical issue: hard drive out of order, or something like that. Why ? I also tried to install Mint again, and very strange problems .... i tried 4 times today .... i really think there is nothing to do, except use the warranty.
