All web browsers (Midori, Firefox, & Seamonkey) suffer for this. When I go to various websites, instead of special characters that I should be seeing, I see these weird alternate images which does not match the button it's supposed to look like. For instance on Walmart.com (yes, I'm in the USA), the cart button does not have a cart image on it. Instead it looks like a lower case "p". The search button actually looks the it has a scrotum image on it (seriously).
Midori shows the same images whether its set to Unicode, Western, or automatic. Am I missing some EN-US language package? This is kind of low on the totem pole of importance, like I said "glitch". I can live without it getting fixed.

With my web browsers as well. This has nothing to do directly with charcter encoding, character sets or fonts.chazbroam wrote:All web browsers (Midori, Firefox, & Seamonkey) suffer for this. Is Javascript turned off? For instance on the Walmart site at least for walmart.com, wal.co and walmartimages.com? If Javascript is enabled for at least these three, then the symbols are displayed correctly.
There are just so many poorly developed web sites.

No, I allow all of those javascripts through, I still have this problem. With my web browsers as well. This has nothing to do directly with charcter encoding, character sets or fonts.

Re: En-US charcter encoding glitches
Everything looks fine here. Do you have any plugins installed? Start firefox with a clean profile and try with that.
Re: En-US charcter encoding glitches
[sigh] that solved it.
Thanks all for your help.
