Newer Gmail accounts won't work with Thunderbird 31 and older versions because these versions don't support Google's non-email-standard authentication

I have many Salix 14 installed, and the last version is thunderbird 17. There are some newer version of thunderbird for Salix 14 ? Or some workarround ?
Regards.

Re: Newer Gmail accounts won't work with Thunderbird
The thunderbird package is provided by slackware and they don't seem to be updating packages to newer versions for stable releases.
As for workarounds, you can take a look at this post.
Useful link if you go that way.
You could also try running a newer version of thunderbird yourself. Thunderbird is provided precompiled and you can just extract it somewhere (anywhere) and run it from there.

Re: Newer Gmail accounts won't work with Thunderbird
A few options that I can think of:
1) use src2pkg and install Thunderbird from Mozilla (make sure you double check dependencies if there are any)
2) upgrade Salix to 14.1 as Slackware 14.1 has Thunderbird 38.2
Hope that helps.

Thanks
The binary (portable) thunderbird-38.2.0.tar.bz2 from https://www.mozilla.org/es-AR/thunderbird/ works ok under Salix 14 32 bits.
