VLC won't play videos

Hello. I'm pretty new to Salix and I'm loving it so far. I used Slackware for a while but lately I'm getting lazy.

Here's my problem: I can open any video in VLC and it shows the first frame of the video but won't go any further. I can't click any of the buttons or open the right-click menu. I can't even close VLC without killing it. From the terminal I get the following output:

That display error seems significant but I'm not sure what to do about it. I have all the gst-plugins installed. I have an AMD graphics card and on another computer with an nvidia card it works fine. Not sure if that means anything.

If the problem is for all videos, try selecting a different video output in VLC. If nothing else works, x11 should, but try the GL and xv ones first.
