localhost:631 not loading after starting cups

I have Salix 14.1 32bit Mate - Basic install which is otherwise working very well. I have installed cups (& pycups) and have started it with command 'sudo service start cups'. However, in firefox web browser, http://localhost:631 is not loading at all. The page remains blank while the browser shows 'connecting..' message. How can I solve this problem. Thanks for your help.

I just try Basic installs of both XFCE and Mate on a virtual machine. On both cups worked right out of the box.

You say that you installed both cups and pycups, but Basic has cups already installed and I did not install pycups. Something does not seem right with your install.
