Sorry if i have confused you. What I meant is , I have both installation iso, 14, 14.1, burnt on 2 dvd's. On this PC, windows is there. I have to install salix.
Problem is, when I try to install with dvd 14.1, I am having the issue of screen going blank
But, with 14.0 dvd, I get a normal screen
If I use this 14 dvd to install, upgrading to current status would be a pain. I have to change the mirror to 14.1 later, and bring it to current update status
(solved) New install of salix on one more PC
Re: New install of salix on one more PC
It's actually reasonably straightforward, if you follow the instructions on the wiki carefully. However, it may not be the best thing to do if you do install 14.0. You might well be left with the same problem. In fact, if 14.1 was installed correctly, it is likely that upgrading 14.0 to 14.1 would bring you back to where you are now.If I use this 14 dvd to install, upgrading to current status would be a pain. Gapan, no extra graphics card. Intel built-in graphics on motherboard. Intel dual core cpu, 3 GHz, Hda audio, gigabyte mother board, 2GB ram
Re: New install of salix on one more PC
Did you try using the "vga=normal" option as westms advised you?
Re: New install of salix on one more PC
If I add vga=normal in the boot line, the kernel panics.
Re: New install of salix on one more PC
What about "nomodeset"?
If 14.0 works and 14.1 doesn't, it may be something with the kernel and an incompatibility of the kernel in 14.1 with your graphics card. If it boots with nomodeset, you could then upgrade the kernel and it should probably work. You won't probably get to a graphical environment, but you will certainly be able to get to a linux console.

Take a look here, gapan wrote:... it may be something with the kernel and an incompatibility of the kernel in 14.1 with your graphics card.

Seems to be a problem with the 3.10 kernel. If you read throught the thread it seems to have been fixed with either patches to the kernel or moving to another kernel.

.gapan, when I add 'nomodeset' in the boot line, then also the kernel panics.
I have installed on two laptops with the 14.1 dvd. I do not suspect the dvd. No scratches.
Looks like I have to install using 14.0 dvd, and then upgrade

Re: New install of salix on one more PC
I remember, one time, having to install linux to a friends laptop after boot, the screen immediately went black. After a few tries, i understood that i had to press the keyboard key which increases the screen brightness. Then screen appeared and proceed with installation.
