Hi everyone,
I tried to install 14.1 64bit on my wifes latptop (to wipe the Debian install she has had on there forever) and the install would not get past loading initd...it loaded the kernel and then either froze or was lost in a loop on loading/booting initd....CD was spinning but nothing. Never made it past the first boot step.
This is the same CD I used on my desktop so I know its a good install iso. Here is a link to the specs on her computer. Perhaps I need a different kernel rather than huge.s?

After suggestions i'll try again with the Xfce edition, she likes her desktop to be a little prettier than I do...LOL.

can not help you directly, but do you have already played the popular ACPI kernel boot line game?

Ni Hao westms,
Tried "huge.s acpi=off" and it did not make a difference. I am going to try the live Xfce version to confirm if it can boot that.
Edit: Xfce Live booted fine without any changes, using sli to install with tips from this post viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6724&hilit=install ... th+%2Fhome to preserve /home. fingers crossed will update again after reboot.

Re: Problem installing Fluxbox 14.1 on wifes laptop
Live CD install worked flawlessly....Debian is gone from laptop...was on their for about 10 years....bye bye...all pc's now run Salix/Slackware.
Still not sure why the install DVD did not work, but doesn't matter too much now.

Well done Chuang. *thumbs up*ChuangTzu wrote:Live CD install worked flawlessly....Debian is gone from laptop...was on their for about 10 years....bye bye...all pc's now run Salix/Slackware.
A pleasant detail in this forum: several people pick a picture of their pet as their avatar. Who am I to do otherwise?
