Take a look at the Salix Startup Guide, specifically section 3.1 and 3.2.
  • 3.1. Package Management
    3.1.1. Gslapt
    3.1.2. Sourcery
3.2. Package management from the command line
    3.2.1. Salix Package Installer
    3.2.2. slapt-get
    3.2.3. slapt-src
    3.2.4. spkg
3.2.5. Making a Package from a Source File with SLKBUILD
Also check out the man pages for slapt-src and spi.

Code: Select all

$man slapt-src
$man spi
And finally to find out how Salix mirrors the SBo repositories see gapan blog:

Looks like you need to install lua. Most likely there will be a few more dependencies that will needed to be installed.
Remember that third party Slackware binary packages ans Slackbuilds assume a full Slackware install, which Salix is not. So when you use package managers that are not part of Salix (e.g Gslapt, slapt-get, Sourcery, slapt-src, and spi), then you should expect dependency issues, both during package building and at run-time.

Ok, but there is something wrong. Slapt-src read from slackbuilds.org.

Code: Select all

sudo slapt-src -s vlc
vlsub:0.9.13 - vlsub (VLC extension)

Code: Select all

sudo sbopkg -s vlc
Searching for vlc
::::::::::::::
./multimedia/vlc/README
::::::::::::::
VLC media player is a free and open source media player and multi-
media framework written by the VideoLAN project. VLC is a portable
multimedia player, encoder, and streamer supporting many audio and
video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various
streaming protocols. It is able to stream over networks and to
transcode multimedia files and save them into various formats...
As you can see some packages are not found.

Well, the Salix repros for 14.2 are still being populated. Salix usually has it own binary package for vlc built by one of the developers; it just hasn't been completed and uploaded to the repository yet. The reason why slapt-src doesn't find the vlc slackbuild in the SBo repository is explained in the blog I linked to, specifically it says:
Salix Blog wrote:Finally, all software that is present in both the Salix binary package repositories and SBo, is removed from our own copy of the SBo repository, so there is no way users will be confused and go back and forth between versions. Actually, the SlackBuilds themselves are not removed from the repositories, rather the reference for them in the SLACKBUILDS.TXT file is removed, so it isn't used by our SlackBuild management tools, slapt-src, Sourcery or spi.

Thanks laprjns ;) but vlc isn't in Salix binary packages.

Hi gapan,

Xfce has since Salix64 Xfce 14.2alpha1 an additional logging enabled. This is written to file ~/.xfce4-session.verbose-log.

This logging is jointly responsible for the partially tough impression on older computers.

In my research I found out that unintentionally enhanced logging is permanently enabled.

The error should have been cleared over a year ago.

Please check if this logging can be turned off by configuring the package with the additional parameter --disable-debug .

Do not quite understand what is meant exactly. What single application? Is libreoffice-l10n-fr been installed?

Gramps I absolutely need. Until now I have 254 families with 739 persons and 156 places.

Some notes:

It looks as if Meld has a problem with the access to icons/symbols for showing, for example, in the "Select First/Second File" dialog. These are all in black and white. The variable labels hold no distances/spacings to the icons and fonts are strange. Other icons/symbols, as in the comparative representation of two files, are mostly black and white, a few are also colored.

Sourcery SlackBuild Manager generates long messages in .xsession-errors by logging the percentage count up. Perhaps this is done with intent. The second line is 6201 characters long.

If the UEFI Manager entry is clicked in the Salix system menu, then a login dialog appears. After entering the password, it will disappear and that is it already, no more visible reaction. In .xsession-errors is logged:

No UEFI partition detected. Aborting.

Well, on this computer I don't have a UEFI firmware, but a menu entry and inquisitiveness I have.

Not having a menu entry for the UEFI Manager or gray-out it, depending on the presence of UEFI firmware, is likely to be difficult. But instead of logging a message, a message dialog could be displayed, which the user can then click away.

A suggestion: GUEFI is already prepared for it. Instead of using

Code: Select all

print('No UEFI partition detected. Aborting.')
from line 39,

Code: Select all

msg = _("No UEFI partition detected. Aborting.")
self.show_dialog(msg, parent = self.window)
from line 674/5 could be used, thus creating the dialog. For non-technical users that is not unimportant.

Thanks for the note, djemos.

Gramps was now so long part of Salix. I hope that it does not disappear.

Not really a beta / RC issue, but the new Firefox consistently crashes for me when I click on Restore (previous tabs) on launching it. This is in x86_64. I dare say it will come out in the wash with the next version, anyway.

What is gramps, and djemos, will you upload that package in due course?
