All,
I did upgrade my Salix system now since some releases with the instruction from the wiki and it usually runs fine.
However I am always struggeling a bit with the display driver for nvidia - do I need to reinstall it from scratch?
Further, I did setup a 32bit chroot along Gapan's instructions and script. Is there an easy way to upgrade the 32bit or better make a clean new install, by removing the old stuff first?
And..is a core/basic install enough or do I need to do a full install for the 32bit chroot?
I for sure need to reinstall the 32bit app then.
Thanks for any hint or advice.
Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit [done & fine]

Yes, definitely. You upgraded the kernel, so you need to rebuilt the driver.jpg153 wrote:However I am always struggeling a bit with the display driver for nvidia - do I need to reinstall it from scratch?
You upgrade the chroot the same way you upgrade a standard installation. Nothing different about it.jpg153 wrote:Further, I did setup a 32bit chroot along Gapan's instructions and script. Is there an easy way to upgrade the 32bit or better make a clean new install, by removing the old stuff first?
That really depends on what you want to run in the chroot.jpg153 wrote:And..is a core/basic install enough or do I need to do a full install for the 32bit chroot?
Re: Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit
Hi Gapan,
thanks for you comments.
2 things:
1. the chroot was not made bootable, at least not that I remember as I wanted the 32bit environment only to use as chroot.
How would it be possible to boot into? Or do I run all the commands/scripts just in the chroot..seems I am a bit confused now.
so
and then update according to the instructions?
2. I currently run a single GUI app in chroot (softmaker office)...so full?
Thanks again.

Re: Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit
Is the chroot a 14.1 installation? Do I understand correctly? If so, and if your only app that you're interested in runs fine on it, you don't have to update anything. Just leave it like this.
I'm not really sure what you're asking since you're both asking about upgrading the chroot and how to install it from scratch.

Re: Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit
Hi Gapan,
well, yes, I am a bit confused...or confusing
Current setup:
Salix 14.1 64bit - main
Salix 14.1 32bit - as chroot only; installed according to your script
Inside the 32bit I use just one app, which is an office package, so finally 3 apps...but similar
I now want to upgrade the 14.1 64bit to 14.2 64bit.
My question relates to, if I now want to upgrade the 14.1 32bit chroot to 14.2 32bit chroot,
how to get this.
I appreciate, I could stay with 14.1 32bit as chroot, as long as there is no conflict between the 2 different kernels
in 14.2 64bit and 14.1 32bit chroot. Which by "chrooting" should not be the case, as that is the idea behind chroot...if I got this right.
I could of course just give it a try and if it remains fine...leave it then as is.
Thanks again.

Re: Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit
This ought to work fine. If you do have any problems and want to try a 14.2 32 bit chroot, it might be easier to just back up your data and start from scratch. You will probably need to rebuilt the 32-bit version of the nvidia driver too.I could of course just give it a try and if it remains fine...leave it then as is.
Re: Upgrade to 14.2 64bit plus chroot 32bit
You don't need any drivers in the chroot. There are no 2 different kernels. There is only the host kernel. Kernel packages are not even installed in the chroot.
And if all you care is those applications, then leave the chroot with 14.1. It doesn't matter.

Hi Gapan,
you are probably right
I will keep it as is (the chroot).
Re nvidia driver: right, I dont need to install the nvidia driver in the chroot (and never did), as all graphics is handled by the host.

Hi all,
just to let you know...after upgrading to 14.2 64bit, the chroot 14.1 32bit still works flawless.
As it should
Thanks
