[Solved] Install to one partition possible?

Post by groze »

Install to one partition possible? I haven't used a terminal install for a very long time. I have used terminal commands though. I do have the partitions setup with my current multiple boot system. What I want to do is install Salix on /dev/sda6 and the swap is on /dev/sda5. Do I just skip the partition manage screen and continue, then set the mount point on /dev/sda6 its already formatted ext3? I don't how picky Salix is. I don't need to use Salix boot manager, I can use my Linux mint grub grub2 boot manager. I have used Manjaro in the past, but it won't boot unless you user their own grub2 version. So, can you not install a boot manager during the install if Salix xfce or install it to /dev/sda6? I am not using Manjaro now. I am dual booting between Windows 7 sp1 and Linux mint 17.3

Thank you for any help or advice.

Yes

If your disks is already partitioned, they yes you can skip it. The installer will detect your swap partition and ask you if you want to used it as swap. Just follow the prompts and make the appropriate selections. Then the installer will detect all avaialble partitions that can be used for the root file system. You should see /dev/sda6 in the list. Select it and then it will ask if you want to format it and will offed several file systems to select form. If it already partitioned, then I believe you can skip it.

Its not picky at all.

Assuming that your system is uefi then when the installer gets to eliloconfig , say no when it ask if you want to install a boot menu entry. If its not an uefi system, then don't install Lilo when it ask.
