I want points on my e instead of "e

Post by lighans »

I will try not to post something stupid, but that it will sound stupid is probable.

I'm looking for a way to change something somewhere in the Salix system, so that "e wil be seen as ë , anywhere in the system.

It has to do something with fonts, but I can't find the solution. Which wil be obvious, off course.

Could somebody help me?

(And I'm not asking anything about Bleutooth yet, cause that doesn't work either very well in UNR, and I don't want to know if it is working with XP)

You probably only need to run keyboardsetup and select your preferred keyboard map from there. That will apply that keyboard map systemwide. Xfce has a tool for setting up keyboard maps too, but it only applies to xfce.

That is the trick. :)

now the next problem: When I use us keyboard layout (standard in most distributions)

BTW: I found in the XFCE keyboard settings us-alt-intl, which does the trick for XFCE. But I can't find that one in keyboardsetup.

Sorry, I don't understand what the problem is or what you're trying to do.

off course. I didn finish the sentence (doing too much at the same time). I'll try again.

now the next problem: When I use us keyboard layout (standard in most distributions) keyboard layout is okay but no special characters. When I use nl as keyboard layout, é works, but the rest of the keys is a mess.

But above isn really important for usability because I found us-alt-intl in keyboard settings of XFCE. It's now only that is annoys me, I can't find the keyboard layout without XFCE/X. Any suggestions, otherwise ..... don't bother.

(and that all after having a similar problem with moodle)

I'm not sure I get it now either. Do you have a US English keyboard and want to be able to write special characters? If that's the case, then you should not select nl as the keyboard layout, as that is certainly not the same as the US keyboard. I'm not sure a US keyboard map with special characters exists.

You could try to edit /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi (carefully!!!) and change the line that includes the input.xkb.layout key to us-alt-intl (now it's probably set to "us" or "nl"), but I don't know if it will work. If it does, do not run keyboardsetup again, or it will undo that change.
