problems with chrome certificates
Re: problems with chrome certificates
Do you have Firefox installed?
Re: problems with chrome certificates
Firefox is the defacto browser in Silux and it works perfect. I think there is problem with the Google browser, maybe is not communicating very well with the kernel. Also, I installed the Opera browser and Flash did not work out of the box. And...acidrip did not work at all....I am working on this one because I had the same problem with Zenwalk.

Flash: http://salixos.org/wiki/index.php/Flash ... _or_midori
Acidrip: Was not updated since 2004 and as far as I remember it needs a bunch of perl dependencies. There are modern tools that could do this task, e.g. Handbrake.
Chromium: I've asked because Firefox is a dependency for these repackaged Chromium packages. It may use Firefox' NSS: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/ Or perhaps you need the seamonkey-solibs.

Re: problems with chrome certificates
I think that there is a problem also with nss. I haven't looked at it yet but I will. I love Chrome...It would make
Salix a super light distro....I think Abiword should be the defacto word processor....my .02 cents.
thanks....

Re: problems with chrome certificates
Abiword: Users often need a complete office suite. This is why we have OO. BTW: I've heard a lot good stuff about Softmaker office, but did not test it myself.
Chromium: I want to correct you: Chromium starts fast and renders fast, but it's not lightweight in any way. It eats my RAM at least as much as Firefox or Opera do.

Re: problems with chrome certificates
Now that you are bringing this up....I play Poker on Facebook and my computer was using about 750 megs yesterday which caught my attention. When I was running Mint it went up to 450 megs max....why???? memory leak somewhere????????????
I would offer light apps in Salix and it would be up to the user to install heavy apps if desire. Have you tried Aurora browser???

Re: problems with chrome certificates
Yes, I've tried Arora and Midori, too. Result: Every modern browser uses a lot of RAM.
To see the top memory consuming processes type:
ps aux | head -1; ps aux | sort -rn +3 | head
Note that chromium uses many processes and every process uses memory.

Re: problems with chrome certificates
I don't mind if Chrome is a memory hugger too as long as my browser doesn't crash. I hate when my browser crashes specially during a bank transaction...nothing worse than this. ...and then the OS sinks too!
