How-To: Salix 15.0 Installer Walkthrough (Standard Ed., 64-bit)

Post by gaucho »

Hello, forum members,

I have written a walkthrough of the Salix 15.0 installer (the non-live, text-based version). I hope this will be helpful to new users by giving them an idea of what to expect during the installation process.

The document is 25 pages long [911 KB] and includes screenshots of (almost) every step of the installation process, as well as links to additional resources. It was typeset with Typst.

It has been publicly shared from the Keep&Share link below:

The PDF should display immediately in Preview mode. You do not need to create a Keep&Share account in order to download the file. Just click on the Download icon:

I plan to prepare a LaTeX version of the guide but it will take me a few days to complete it.

I've finished the LaTeX version of the guide and am posting it below. (Its contents are identical to the Typst-generated file in the first post.)

This document is 35 pages long [1.1 MB] and includes screenshots of (almost) every step of the installation process, as well as links to additional resources. It was typeset with LaTeX and the hyperref package.

(The body typeface is Linux Libertine and the headings use Libertine's companion sans-serif typeface, Linux Biolinum.)

It has been publicly shared from the Keep&Share link below:

The PDF should display immediately in Preview mode. You do not need to create a Keep&Share account in order to download the file. Just click on the Download icon:

Hi, djemos,

Thank you for taking the time to look over the guide -- especially since you are one of the Salix experts. :)

I will figure out why I got that link incorrect, will fix it and then upload a revised version of the document.

P.S.
I just checked and the hyperlink itself was typed correctly; the problem is that the server for rodsbooks.com is currently down:

(Pinging that address also yields no response.)

Hopefully the outage is temporary ... Rod Smith is well-known as a Linux sysadmin and is also the creator of the rEFInd Boot Manager.
