Hi all, new to Salix but run several other distros. I always remove or disable ModemManager from my distros, because (1) it takes up RAM that could be better used and (2) there's no modems to manage. It's one of those things that probably is loaded up on most distros regardless of need, and I'm pretty sure it's not needed unless in remote countries or such.
If Salix was running systemd or openrc, there would be a service for it that could be stopped and disabled. Salix's service manager lists no such ModemManager service. In situations like this, I've successfully removed the ModemManager package. When I tried doing that via slapt-get, I saw where it would also remove NetworkManager and its systray applet (and something else)! Noooo! That's just wrong!
It seems to be tied to NetworkManager but when I looked into that app's configs and such, I could see nothing that would bring up (and thus I'd be able to stop it from doing) ModemManager.
So how do I get rid of this thing?
Perhaps removing all the above would work IF I then could re-install only the necessary items (Network Manager and its systray app, say). Can this be done?
How to disable or remove ModemManager?
Re: How to disable or remove ModemManager?
NEVERMIND!!! (Probably no moderators now to approve the original post anyway, sorry to say!)
# chmod -x /usr/bin/ModemManager
...took care of it! Wish I'd thought of that before on my other distros!
Wishing for Salix to be continued/renewed! I like it too much already!
