Live installer failure
I'm trying to install Salix alongside another distro using the live installer. I've answered all its questions and I have a free partition available but it won't work. The box for the install location is greyed out and clicking on it has no result. What am I doing wrong?

Is that partition formatted in ext4 or other linux filesystem? Click on "Partitions" button on top and gparted will run to check it.

Re: Live installer failure
I have 5 partitions: an efi, two formated as ext 4, a swap, and a newly created sda5 formated as ext4. My intention was to use sda5 to install distros for review, something I used to do. By my usual method of "creative tinkering" I found that the selection box is not greyed out if I mark sda5 as bootable. This is strange — a UEFI system shouldn't need a bootable flag. Not that it helped: the box now only offers a choice between sda2 and sda3. Clearly it's the installer, not me.
I used to use Salix on a laptop, until the long hiatus between versions 14 and 15. I always liked it, so I shall download the installation disk and try that — unless it's possible to download the normal installer for the live session?

I agree. No need to be bootable.
What have you done and now sda2 and sda3 can be selected to install salix? Not that it helped: the box now only offers a choice between sda2 and sda3. Clearly it's the installer, not me.
I have never had such a problem. All linux partitions except swap and efi (which is vfat ) have to be shown for selection.
The installation iso has it's own installer. Live installer can not be used.
Live installer can be used only for live iso.

Re: Live installer failure
Well here I am running Salix, having installed from the installation disk. The fact that the live installer looked for a boot flag and wouldn't see sda5 shows that it was treating my UEFI system as if it were legacy BIOS. But all's well that ends well.

This happened because you boot the live iso using syslinux. For systems does not support uefi. (Legacy bios.)DavidMcCann wrote: ↑28. To install in UEFI systems have to boot using elilo.
Can check it if you boot using elilo and see if treats system as UEFI.
