Please, read what grub2 can do before critizise like that. And the syntax is more clear now than before.
If you still prefer grub instead of grub2, use grub. No one force you to use something else.

This attitude prevents any progress. Legacy needs to be abandoned sometimes to be able to move forward. If you don't like it, you can try to keep using old stuff as long as you want.
If you think you need more answers to flame about, I suggest you check the grub-devel maillist, where this recently popped up, too.
