Audio

I only have sound with Limewire that's it . No other media application or web page such as youtube outputs any audio, it would seem driver and mixer setting are alright because i have audio through Limwire.

Could it be that limewire is using OSS and is blocking all other apps? Have you tried playing anything with exaile or some other player with limewire off?

I tried using Exaile and Mplayer . Exaile appears to open and play MP3 but no sound. Mplayer when I attempt to open MP3 I get Error "Could not open/initialize audio device->no sound".

Try running

Code: Select all

aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
right after you reboot. Don't launch anything before that. What do you get?

aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

But no Sound

I uninstalled limewire and ran Noise.wav still no sound ran in init 3 still no sound.
i installed frostwire and it plays MP3's with sound , what is it with these apps. different from everything else.
They are using sound card : SB live?[Unknown](alsa mixer) in case it helps.

Do i need to install a sound blaster driver? or assign card to other programs ?

Thank you for your assistance

Do you have more than one sound card in your system? Could it be that sound is being output to the other one?

I agree with Gapan's supposition. For me, the second sound card is...the micro of my webcam, which is seen as a soundcard.

That was it 2 sound cards ,I pulled the one I wasn't using anyway and rebooted, problem solved. I had plugged speakers in other card and didn't hear anything I thought other programs were trying to use other card but other card was blocking/interfering with other programs some how. my OSS and ALSA mixer settings are in sync now as well.

,Thanks

Hi.
All they have to run after startup:

Code: Select all

modprobe snd-sb16

Code: Select all

alsamixer
So getting live sound card. :(
There is a solution to the OS automatically load the driver?
