13.1 beta minor bug and a question

Post by toothandnail »

Just installed the beta. No problem during the install (well apart from the fact I forgot to back up the additional packages I had installed on the alpha  ).

Minor problem - I'm getting an error in any terminal if I enter 'clear':

Code: Select all

TERM environemntal varialble not set
Also, a question. What has happened to the Xfce 'devices' plugin? Doesn't seem to be in the default set available from 'Add New Items'. I found it quite useful since the Xfce devs removed the 'unmount' option from the context menu for optical media.

:( I will probably not be able to do much more testing of the beta - I'm about to move house, and will be without an internet connection from tomorrow night, probably for a couple of weeks...

I don't understand. Where do you get that? I can't see a problem here.

I can't find a "devices" plugin in 13.0 by default. Maybe you had installed it yourself?

Well, I can see the bug now with Xfce's Terminal. I'm usually using xterm, so I couldn't see it. Seems to be a problem with default Terminal settings. A solution seems to be to enter the Terminal Preferences window and in the Advanced tab, enter xterm in the $TERM field. Also, it seems that by default there is no window title for Terminal windows anymore. You can set that in the General tab of the preferences window. I set it to Terminal myself.

And I think it has been fixed with the latest xfce package update.

Strange. Maybe it was called something else. I'll check around....

Thanks George. Sorry to be so slow - havne't had any internet connection for a week (and this one is only due to my return to work - have to use IE 6  ). I should have a real connection again on Friday or Saturday, I hope. Have a chance to play then.
