I have an old Compaq Armada laptop.
First instalation of Salix LXDE went fine, but i've break something and reinstall. During reinstall I erased the root partition (but not the home one).
Now the logout option from menu brings up a window with logout and switch user option but not shutdown nor restart.
The user is part of the power group.
Any ideas to solve this without the third install?
Thanks

Re: shutdown button in Salix 13.1 LXDE
What did you break the first time? Generally it is always better to try to fix whatever it is that you broke instead of reinstalling.
Do you have any other partitions apart from / and /home?
I'm guessing your problem has something to do with user permissions. If you create a new user, do you have the same problem? What are all the groups your user belongs to? You could try deleting your user and recreating him.

Partitions: /, /home and swap
With new user the same problem. (So I don't erased & recreate the current user).
The existing user belongs to users (main), lp, floppy, audio, video, cdrom, plugdev, power, netdev, scanner.
Thanks

I have installed ConsoleKit and now works (info found on lxde forum).
Thank you again, and sorry for bothering you...

This is weird. It should have worked fine without consolekit. It's nice that you solved it anyway.

I had the same problem with an older laptop. It wouldn't power down when shutting down, too.
I fixed both by forcing acpi with acpi=force as the BIOS matched with 1999 the cutoff date 2001 of the kernel.
Maybe consolekit should be installed by default, to ensure that also on such laptops shutdown etc. are available. Especially as there may be machines where acpi=force won't work.
