Salix 13.1: Dell XPS M1530
Everything works except bluetooth but it doesn't work on any distro because it uses a crappy Broadcom chip  .

i have it installed on a;
Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Li-3710
3gb ram
gma4500 graphics
celeron t3000 dual core processor
an some other bits that im sure are needed inside it (all ihc9 family intel)

so far i'd say it all works except for my volume up/down an mute keyboard functions and i dont use the built in camera or mic, so don't care on them two "useless" peripherals
i should be able to boot faster once i get more confident with kernels (any standard kernel over 2.6.32 work but i can find matches in terms of hardware names)

I didn't checked with Salix, yet, but bluetooth worked perfectly on Ubuntu 8.10 for me (also Broadcom, I guess)

Thanks for the heads up. When I get time I'm install Ubuntu into a partition and see if it works, may be then I can get it to work for Salix.

Hi fellow posters

I have installed salix 13.1.1 onto two machines.

The first is my desktop that is a self built system with amd64 3000, 2gig ram, radeonhd 2400 and a samsung syncmaster 205bw monitor.

There are some issues occassionally with the graphics. Sometimes around the mouse curser/pointer there is an artifact. You know when you place the mouse over something and the mouse cursor changes either into another object or has an additional image well there is permanently an additional something.

The second install is onto my sony vaio laptop that has a dual core intel processor 1800, intel video card and 2gig of ram.

Seems to be running ok though. :D

An old rebuilt Dell Dimension 4600 pent. 4 Desktop 32 bit w/Salix 13.1
I gig of ram and a 250 gig sata hd, nividia Geforce 6200 w/ an Acer widescreen monitor.
Cabled dsl since I'm not likely to spring for the wireless even from Ebay.
Ebay rebuilt the box btw. :D
Salix seems to agree rather well with the box and so far fills all my needs.
The box performs a dual purpose.
I'm disabled and build websites for Internet Marketing purposes and also use the box for entertainment by reading ebooks, Hulu, a few low key games and now Youtube to learn some riffs for the guitar.
The speed of my setup rivals that of VectorLinux which I've also ran.

Not an attempt to hijack the thread but:
I don't know if anyone hand configures their own partitions but I always do and place hda1 as swap and give it at least 512 megs.
Dunno why but it makes a noticeable difference in boot time as well as affects the overall speed of my machine even though I'm starting a few extra apps at boot.
The lightness of Salix lends to that speed and makes Salix a pleasurable experience to date.

I've been running Salix for a while now. 64-bit on my T61 laptop, just added the 32-bit version to that machine as well. 2.0 GHz Core2Duo, 3GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive (due to become a 400 GB in a few days...).

I've also just converted my main (old) dekstop - 32 bit AMD Sempron (2 GHz), 1GB memory, 320 GB hard drive, Nvidia (5200?) video. That machine has been running Zenwalk for the past 4 years. Works very nicely with the 32-bit versio of Salix.

I've another machine in the works as well, just too lazy to finish putting it together - 2.4 GHz Core2, 4 GB Memory, hard drives and other stuff yet to be determined. Looks like it will be running Salix as well :)

Paul.
