Hi,
After a fresh installation I only once get an overview of the available networks in WICD. Connection to my home wifi network is very good and stable. But after the first reboot I don't see any wireless networks anymore. There are about 10 wifi networks in my neighboorhood. The connection to my home network is always good! I did iwconfig:
salix[~]$ iwconfig
bash: iwconfig: opdracht niet gevonden
salix[~]$ su
Password:
root[salix]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I googled about this but I couldn't find anything. I hope there's a solution.

WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
Hmmm, your question leaves me puzzled as to what the problem here actually is? You want to see more networks in wicd? You want to know what is the difference between live cd and installed version? Whatever it is probably you worked out the answer by now.
You could try $iwlist scanning. You are probably aware that access points aren't always seen immediately as they send out their beacon signals (may not be the exact term) advertising their presence at intervals. So if you scan as soon as wicd is up, or using iwlist, what you see will often be different from what you see a minute later. Maybe the neighbours all went on holiday and turned off their access points?

Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
Well I found out that it doesn't have to do with the live or installed version of salix. When there's a connection with mij acces point and I try to find other networks nothing is found. When I first disconnect all networks and two times refresh in Wicd I see my own and all other networks in my neighboorhood. Actually it's no problem, I just wondered why it happened.

Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
What WLAN interface are you using? Output of "lspci" may show it.
IIRC all networks should be shown if you hit the refresh button several times, regardless of your current connection state.

Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
Here's the output of lspci. I use wlan0 (Atheros pci) in the preferences of wicd. It connects instantly to my home wifi-network. refreshing in wicd gives no networks while I'm connected to my home wifi network.

Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
The Atheros 5212 chipset is extremely well supported by the Linux kernel natively. The fact that you can connect to your home network with no problems tells me that it is working correctly to a point.anttel wrote:Here's the output of lspci. If you have wicd configured to autoconnect to your home network it will not search for or find other networks if the default is present. Disable autoconnection in wicd and see if that makes a difference.
Re: WICD no networks after install Salix 13.1
Hello Caitlyn,
I do make an automatic connection to my home network. So, it's normal that I can't see other networks. And yes I see other networks when I disconnect. Thank you for the help.
