bastet without the Boost C++ Libraries

Post by zAchAry »

is it possible to install bastet with some other library (maybe, libc) instead of the boost libraries that have the installed size of ~57MB ?
In other words, may you please provide a smaller C++ library if you can?

Debian: http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=bastet
Evil OS: http://is.gd/eWbzS

Website: http://fph.altervista.org/prog/bastet.html
bastet - bastard tetris (sends in the worst block possible)

I don't know any alternative. Buy a bigger hard disk if 57 MB is to much...

So you say that Debian & Ubuntu are using Boost C++ as well (please browse the links on my first post to confirm it, if you like). - GNU C Library

And it isn't much about space it is about "wow, such a small application with that huge (relatively) dependency?" - imho, it isn't worth it.

For instance, I got KeePassX installed, which is make use of the Qt toolkit, and I'm in a very big doubt that I'd have done that (installing KeePassX) if VLC wasn't already installed or if I wasn't intending to install VLC at the first place.

Debian an ubuntu are offering an older version which didn't need boost. The version that we offer is newer and does need boost. If you don't like it, don't install bastet.

Yes, that is also my opinion. It is the same as saying I do not require M$ Windows, only the nice coloured icons needed. There is a lot of stuff going on behind your control and knowledge of the algorithms in the software. Therefore, it is nothing more than bubbling around in some kind.
I do not know bastet at all, but it seems that it can be seen as some kind of a frontend for boost which is the library and therefore provides (one of) the backends.
And please, stop comparing distributions in this forums all the time. Nobody wants to make Salix similiar to another distribution, Salix has to go its own way to achieve special quality. ;)
Just use the distro that you like most (hopefully Salix :) ).

Sorry for not paying enough attention to this fact and posting such a hasty/reckless request, and I'm terribly sorry for emphasizing GNU C Library after thenktor replied -- I assumed that thenktor wasn't aware to the situation that I've considered to be a fact (and that was very not polite from me).

I'll ask the bastet developers for a solution, if there's one.

Halite BitTorrent Client

Halite is using boost too and its size is ~7MB (no need to reply, it's only a side-note, I'll ask the bastet developers specifically about that)

It just has the libs included that are really needed. On Slackware you install the complete boost package.
