Yes. I use Xfce as my main desktop environment, and yet use a few very good applications from the KDE family such as Amarok, Okular, K3B, KDEgames, etc... they all required kdebase and do work perfectly in Xfce.

Overcome by the power of your logic and the simplicity of your plan I installed kdebase and everything is working! y---e---a---h!
I did get a new message however and I'm not sure of it's meaning:
Warning: Directory already exists *behind the symlink* on filesystem. This may break upgrade/remove if you change that symlink in the future. (usr/share/doc)
I did a quick look in the directory /usr/share/doc/ and I don't see anything that looks like a symbolic link so I'm not sure what the message or in particular what the reference to symlink is about, or if there is any need for concern?
On another note, very happy with the emerging Salix 13.37, looking forward to the final release!
