we won't do such things because IMHO patching everything sucks
Of course, going with Go-OOO is no more difficult than the stock OOO. No individual patches needed.

FWIW, I'm not criticizing your choice. It just doesn't work for me.

When Zenwalk has switched to go-oo there have been a lot of rumours, too. No idea what they are using at the moment. Fact is, that go-oo has other drawbacks. And AFAIR it's based on a quite old OO version.
So I think plain OO may be better on the iso, but IMHO it's no problem to get go-oo from their website ;)

BTW: Softmaker office may be a good option for users. AFAIK it has a good Microsoft document support and the 2008 version is available for free.

Just curious, what are they nowodays?

Their latest build: ooo-build-3.2.0.5

For first hand information => http://go-oo.org/
Interestingly it also includes LGPLv3 compared to only CDDL for OpenOffice

At least it used to be that way, but of course everything may change now that Oracle took OOO over from Sun (or rather since Oracle took over Sun...). Who knows? Go-oo & OOO might actually get quite close in a 'not that far' future?

In fact the license used on OpenOffice in this Oracle website clearly states that it now uses LGPL3 too.

Who knows what other 'improvements' will OOO include from Go-oo next?

;)

If we ever do, however, it would be good to clearly have it branded as go-oo & not ooo so that anyone who may have philosophical preference knows which is which & is able to choose accordingly.

I gave it a quick try last night, but it needs pam-devel.

Ouch... there won't be PAM in Slackware current, so we won't have it, too.

May be the following links could be useful?
http://mike.opennix.com/2010/01/openoff ... o-3-2-rc2/
http://mike.opennix.com/2010/02/openoff ... ware-13-0/
It seems to be a Go-oo build without PAM => slackbuild

Code: Select all

   --disable-pam \
   --disable-pam-link \
