Full screen video performance/lags

Post by loukingjr »

I am running Salix 13.1.1 LXDE in VirtualBox. I have 13 (don't laugh) other Linux guests and Windows XP. All of them can run videos say from YouTube in fullscreen without perceptible lag. For some reason I can't get Salix to do the same with basically the same settings.

any thoughts?

Have you installed the guest additions in all those other guests? Have you done the same for salix?

Are you sure? Did you install the kernel-source package before installing the guest additions?

IIRC VBox doesn't even drop an error message if the kernel-source is missing.

um, yes, I installed the kernel-source. the guest additions won't install without them. I had to un-exclude the kernel filter.

a side note, I can run full screen etc but where did the setting for monitor resolution go? I still have to tell LXDE I am running at 1440x900 otherwise it won't draw the wallpaper correctly.

I did a clean install of 13.1.1 just to see if it helped with my issue btw, and it hasn't. It acts like other guests do if you don't have 3D turned on in virtualbox, but it is.

Best solution: install Salix on your real machine instead of VirtualBox :P *SCNR*

well, just installed Salix 13.1.1 XFCE and it still has the same problem. it acts like it doesn't know there;s 3D acceleration. other guests do the same thing if I turn off 3D in the guests' settings.
