Can't mount DVD data disc

I can't mount a DVD data disc that I've burnt on Ubuntu 8.10
Surprisingly I can read it in Windows running on VBox

Any suggestion or a special technique to mount the disc?

To dispel any doubt: the copy of WindowsXP shown at the screenshot above is completely legal and has no limitations concerning VBox or other limitations that the current copy is allowed to be running only on X machines (sounds ridicules, eh?)

Any errors shown with dmesg when trying to mount it? How exactly are you trying to mount it?

I'm just inserting a disc and an icon with a disc shape is displayed in the sidebar of Thunar, and I'm just clicking on that icon.
I just mounted another DVD
  • same company
    also burnt on Ubuntu 8.10

"dmesg" gave me ~620 lines of output, which do you want me to "grep"?

Edit:
dmesg of DVD in question < link >
dmesg of other DVD < link >

Those

Code: Select all

Buffer I/O error on device sr0
messages show that there's something wrong with that dvd.

I can't imagine Thunar goes: "OMG that DVD has done it wrong... now I'm not going to let it into the system"

Well, there's an error and Window$ IS able to give access to it (although there's a problem with the names of the files inside), any solution to get into the disc?

It's not thunar that doesn't mount the DVD. It's the kernel that can't read it. Windows obviously doesn't have the same mechanism for reading optical drives as linux has.

I'm always checking the check-sums (md5sums) of the burnt data, meaning that I've been browsing the DVD in question, with Ubuntu 8.10.

Secondly, Ubuntu 10.04, inside VBox, inside Salix OS, can handle it:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ dmesg

To dispel any doubt: this copy of Ubuntu GNU/Linux is completely legal

Run this on both systems.

Code: Select all

uname -r
