boot from iso image or exploded file on hard drive ?

Post by slakjak »

Hello,
I thought I might try salix.

Can I install salix 64 directly from unexploded iso image or it's extracted files if they are on a hard drive not cd?
I am using grub 1 not 2?

I have done this in past with other distros by tweaking the contents of .cfg file thru trial and error.

Just wondering if someone has already done this and what the grub menu.lst lines would be.

Similarily could it be done off a flash stick?

Many thanks in advance

Both can be done. There are instructions in the wiki for installing from a flash drive. Sorry, I don't use grub, so I can't tell you how to use it. I have booted the iso directly from the hard drive with lilo though.
