[Solved] Xfce: The Case of the Vanishing Launcher!

Well another Hercule Poirot mystery..

Clicking on a Panel and choosing Add Items and then Selecting Launcher I can create an Application Launcher in a Panel.
However if I right click on the Desktop and choose Create Launcher I am immediately presented with the Same app to Create a Launcher. After the Launcher is Created it Appears NOWHERE! Not on the Desktop, nor the Applications Menu not either Panel..
Where is it Mr. Poirot?

Ok then process of elimination...... who doesn't have the Skype launcher that I created on their Desktop?

We will apply Occam's Razor: Or When given competing theories the simplest answer is usually correct.
Applying that postulate I suggest MAGIC.. as the cause..

Just copy the respective .desktop file from /usr/share/applications to your desktop directory.

I have no problems creating desktop launchers so, I can't help but thinking that there is something messed up with your xfce desktop setting. I also swear that I had the same problem a few years back on another distro and if I recalled there was a check box in the xfce Desktop settings dialog box called "allow xfce to manage your desktop". IIRC I needed to check and uncheck this box a couple of times along with rebooting to get it to work. Unfortunately the current xfce Desktop setting box doesn't have this, but it does have settings to control icons on the desktop under the Icons tab. I suggest you try changing those setting along with logging in and out with the different setting.

It's amassing how attached you become to them.

Your right there. We already got a new dog at Christmas for my daughter. His name is Eduardo, a chiweenie which is a cross between the Chihuahua and the Dachshund. Eduardo looks a little like Bart. And, my family just announce that the got me a dog for my birthday. He's a mix of Rottweiler and Mastiff. This dog is going to be big, he's already 40 lbs at 2 1/2 months. We are picking him up Friday morning at 5 am in Southington. He from a rescue shelter in Ohio and is coming via a pet transportation service, so there's not any choice on where or when. Eduardo came the same way.
