gigolo and passwords

Post by toothandnail »

I hit this problem when I first installed the 32-bit beta of Salix 13.2 - gigolo was not saving passwords. From memory, the function was handled by Gnome Keyring. So I installed gnome-keyring as well. Which didn't seem to change anything. However, it is now working for the 32-bit version. I think it started working after some updates, but I don't know which ones made the difference.

A couple of days ago, I installed the 64-bit beta. And I'm having the same problem - there is no prompt to remember passwords for network shares, and I'm having to enter them manually each time I connect to a share. I've fully updated the 64-bit version, and installed gnome-keyring, but still have the problem.

For my local network shares, it doesn't really matter too much - I can remember the passwords. However, for some of the remote shares (including my Salix upload area), I have to hunt for them every time, which is a bit of a pain.

Anyone know what is needed to get gigolo using gnome-keyring to stor passwords?

Well, problem seems to be solved. I just wish I had some idea why....

Nothing changed, but today when I went to open a local share, I was prompted for the keyring password, and connected without further intervention.

When I installed the 64-bit beta, I reused the original user I had for the earlier 64-bit version, so the password data and the keyring data was probably still there. Why it took several reboots to get it to work, I don't know.....

Would it be possible to include the gnome-keyring in the next beta iso, see if that fixes the problem from the install point?

OK, we can add gnome-keyring to the full installation mode.

BTW, it does work here. But I've had gnome-keyring since I built it.

Thanks George. Be interesting to see if that fixes the problem with Gigolo.
