Usb wireless still on after shutdown.

Post by kelean »

I have a netgear WPN111 usb dongle. When I shutdown the computer the dongle still is blinking. It stays very warm when it is on and I do not like the idea of it staying on when the computer is off.

The only way I can turn it off is by removing it or turning off the power strip to the computer. This is also a pain when i restart the computer the dongle will not change any setting for the wireless.

Is there any way to shut it down and or reset it with the command line.

The computer is a dell dimension 2400.

Thanks Kelean.

AFAIK it is normal that USB is powered even after shutdown, e.g. you can use it to charge USB devives (cell phones, mp3 players, ...). No idea if this can be disabled, perhaps you should have a look into your BIOS settings.
