I respectfully request that ne - titled "Nice Editor" - be packaged for use in SalixOS. Here's an extract from its home page at http://ne.dsi.unimi.it/:
"ne is a free (GPL'd) text editor based on the POSIX standard that runs (we hope) on almost any UN*X machine. ne is easy to use for the beginner, but powerful and fully configurable for the wizard, and most sparing in its resource usage."
In appearance, ne is very similar to nano (which I know is already packaged). However ne is a little easier to use (IMHO) because: (1) it uses more common shortcut sequences (e.g. Ctrl-S to save) and it has 3 operating modes: menu, control keystrokes and command line. This means that the beginner can start by selecting options from the menu, more advanced users can use keyboard shortcuts and even more advanced users can enter commands from the command line.

Re: ne - "Nice Editor"
If you're using 13.37, it's available through slapt-src/sourcery now. Just make sure you update the cache first. If you use an older version, you could download this file:
http://salix.enialis.net/slkbuild/13.37 ... e/SLKBUILD
and then run slkbuild -X in the same directory. That will make you a package.

gapan,
Perfect! I am not running 13.37 although I want to do so ASAP. In the meantime I downloaded the SLKBUILD and, with your instructions, built and installed the 'ne' package.
Thanks for such a quick response!
