hi i got toshiba d655-s5120 and has a gpu
ati mobility hd 4250 in my laptop
and after reading the wiki about ati install I wanna ask,,

Do i need to0 do this to get full 3d support or is it already working outta box ?fresh installed salix
and if I need to do this, can someone please describe the steps i need to do in more detail,,

Im not understanding the wiki fully, i need a some hand holding

I am total noob,,,,

Please help me

I just want full 3d support from my card
& so if someone took the time to walk me in more detailed step-by-step id really be greatful !

I don't know the current state of the free driver radeon about 3D. So not sure if it's necessary to install the proprietary binary driver for getting "full 3D" for your specific card. Maybe some others folks know better.

I don't know anything specifically about your driver problem. But assuming the steps in that wiki will help - what is it you don't understand? Perhaps you're not used to using the terminal.

In which case: there should be a little icon that looks like a black television screen towards the very bottom left of your desktop. Click once and a window should open with a prompt $. That means you're working as whichever user you logged in as, but the instructions in the wiki require you to work as root, the superuser, as indicated by the # prompt. Type su (short for 'superuser'), and enter, and you will be asked for the root password. When you've finished working as root, type exit to return to the normal user (and the $ prompt).

One tip for entering the code: select exactly what you want to type with the mouse (without the # at the beginning), so it is highlighted. In the terminal window, make sure the cursor is in the right place (using arrow keys to get there if needed) then click the middle mouse button. Your text should appear after the cursor. This avoids any typos, which are very easy to make and will mean the command doesn't work properly.
