Hello All,
I am having an odd issue running Salix 13.0 on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. Simply when loading some pages (especiallly ones requiring logging with password in) browser hangs endlessly. This is happening from time to time (generally Firefox behaves better than Opera in my case) . Strange thing that I have exactly the same system running on HP laptop and everything works great. I guess this is something related to hardware since I had the same issues also using other distros (Mandriva 2010.2, Debian 6). Presently Salix 13.0 is the one which works best on this machine. I tried 13.1.2 but trying to surf the web was a pain.
I checked the resolv.conf file but it is set exactly the same like the one on the HP laptop.
I have come to the conclusion that this has to do with the specific hardware of this Toshiba laptop but I have no more clues how to proceed.
Here is the lspci output; hope someone can provide some clues to solve this problem.

Apart from that, Salix is working perfect for me.

Browser hanging on Salix 13.0
Re: Browser hanging on Salix 13.0
Do you activate SCIM by any chance? I have experienced the same when SCIM was on. This is part of the reason why we are using ibus now.

Re: Browser hanging on Salix 13.0
Hello tsuren,
Checked on the machine and no, SCIM was not enabled and running (guess a keyboard icon should be present on taskbar when running, shouldn't it?). Also top command is not showing SCIM instance running.

Antonio
p.s.- As an example of what is happening: triying to log into Transifex from laptop; both Firefox and Opera keep hanging with no success. Tried on the desktop (Mandriva 2010.2 installed) and logged in practically instantly. Salix 13.0 on the other Laptop (HP) works just fine so it's not a matter of Salix itself.

Re: Browser hanging on Salix 13.0
Sounds like hardware problems. Check your RAM with memtest. See if the CPU is overheating. Check your hard drive for errors.
Re: Browser hanging on Salix 13.0
Hello Gapan,
Checked twice with memtest and ram is ok. Also CPU is about 60/65°C according to hardinfo. To be sure I have redone all the partitions (finally got rid of that Vista taking almost 20GB on the HD...) and made fsck. All were in order. Tried to install 13.1.2 on HD with the issue was even worse (Firefox was hanging just by trying to reach salixos.org). Turned back to 13.0; occasionally browser hangs but apart from that system is working ok. Maybe switching to network manager or something similar instead of wicd could make some difference?
